First Step
The first step I made in starting a Cat Sanctuary was preparing my mind and belief system. Beginning this endeavor is going to have obstacles that come in many forms. For me, family and friends told me not to blow all the money I had saved to help cats. My doubts and fears asked me if I could pull this off.
It was heartache when I held a cat from the kill list at the City Pound only to come home and realize she was so sick I needed to take her to my vet to have her put to sleep.
I could easily list 20 more challenges I have faced since deciding to start the Sanctuary, but my goal is not to dissuade you; my objective is to encourage you and help you on the path to success. Please start a life-saving animal Sanctuary!
The Dream
In these blogs about starting a Sanctuary, I will keep it real. I want to tell you everything I did wrong and the few things I happened to get right. I would love for this to be a collaborative process so that people can work together to encourage one another to be successful in this journey.
While this is gratifying work for humans, we are all engaged in this vision and dream to help end the suffering of animals in need.
In keeping it real, if I asked someone 5 or 10 years ago what the steps are the answer to start a Cat Sanctuary, and I got an answer to prepare my mind…I would have rolled my eyes, muttered something like oh my gawd and tried to fast forward to the actual first step. Surely, it is getting with the IRS to get a tax ID number or something very logical and practical.
You can do that, but I’m telling you…preparing your mind and getting your goal solid in your belief system will set you up for success.
Recommended Books
It starts with gratitude. I highly recommend Pam Grout’s book “Thank and Grow Rich.” That book and a notebook and pen got me started. Then I bought her book “E Squared.” I’m not even going to try to summarize what Pam says in her books about gratitude, energy, and mindset because I would botch it up, and that’s a disservice to her, you, and the cats!
But I’m telling you…if you want to start an animal Sanctuary…get these books. I don’t get a cut or a kickback, and I don’t even know Pam. Still, I am telling you she is on to something real and significant, and if you apply what she says in these short, easy-to-read books, you will find magic and inspiration and help define and refine your dream to start your own animal Sanctuary.
The mental challenge is not to be underestimated in this endeavor. You must be laser-focused on your drive and unwavering commitment to succeed. You need to know that success is your right and your destiny, and you have this dream because the universe is conspiring with you to make it a reality.
Animals need people to save them and provide them with a Sanctuary. If you are reading this crazy blog, then you have been called. You can do it. You are doing it. You are destined for the legacy of making the world a better place for animals.
I can’t imagine a higher calling, and I’m so grateful that people like you are ready to follow their dreams and advocate for animals in such a beautiful and significant way.
